SMU Bhangra was started in 2013 by the first exco of SMU Sikh Society to spread awareness about Punjabi culture and create a platform for Punjabis and non-Punjabis to interact and foster new bonds. Since then, SMU Bhangra has provided a platform for dancers in SMU to come together to learn and excel in Bhangra, as well as introduce bhangra to the SMU Community.

Their first performance was at Diwali Night 2013, that was organized in collaboration with the SMU Indian Cultural Society and soon were crowned champions at Jashn-E-Bhangra 2014, a tri-uni bhangra competition. SMU Bhangra also performs actively at intra-SMU events and participated in RedDot Bhangra Extravaganza in 2016 and 2017.

On top of their active performers, SMU Bhangra has over 15 alumni members from different backgrounds that contribute by teaching the current students for upcoming performances. Their style of bhangra is an exciting mix of traditional and fusion with Bollywood and Bharatnatyam.
