Joshiley Bhangra Singapore

Joshiley Bhangra Singapore was formed in 2007 by a group of 8 passionate and experienced dancers. With the root word ‘Josh‘, which means ‘full of energy’, as their team name, it comes as no surprise that these performers incorporate high energy moves and stunts in their performances!

Since then, Joshiley has established itself as a major player in the local Bhangra scene of Singapore with more than 20 active members as well as an active alumni.

While Bhangra has its own unique set of techniques, forms and passion, they always try to bring something special with their performances that sets them apart from other Bhangra groups. Ranging from Bollywood songs to Michael Jackson moves or even Psy’s Gangnam Style, Joshiley constantly strives to bring their best surprise for their fans!

In recent events, Joshiley introduced interaction segments to invite the audience to join them on the dancefloor and learn a few Bhangra steps so that they too can feel the ‘Josh’!

Joshiley might be a younger team by years but have definitely clocked up an amazing resume filled with major national and international performance.

Kohinoor Bhangra Singapore

Kohinoor Bhangra was established 1994 by 4 young men, Ranjit Singh, Kiranjit Singh, Rajesh Singh and Roop Athwal. They came together for a performance at a local event and, encouraged by the support they received, continued to perform at other functions and eventually formalised the group into what has become today’s Kohinoor Bhangra!

Over the years, Kohinoor has performed at Chingay, on live TV and for national as well as charitable events. They have also taken part in Bhangra Bonanza and Red Dot Bhangra’s various events and bhangra nights.

The team’s current 10 members mix traditional bhangra with a fusion of modern and high-energy stunts in their performances.

Kohinoor aspires to grow the current bhangra scene in Singapore as well as internationally to help train the next generation of youth to be better at this folk dance and to share more of their virsa (culture) with the various ethnic communities.

Jaan Punjabi Bhangra

Jaan Punjabi Bhangra (JPB) was formed in 2009 after a group of friends and families decided to get together to perform Bhangra together. Led by Ramanpreet Singh, the team consists of male and female performers who have various degrees of experience in the Bhangra scene in Singapore! Check out one of their early performances that was uploaded to their YouTube channel back in 2009!

Performing fusion Bhangra with high energy stunts, JPB’s members have performed in various events in the 9 years since inception. Signature events such as Chingay Street Parade, National Day Parade, SAFRA Singapore Bay Run and Asia’s Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts Fighting Championship at Resorts World Sentosa as well as regional cultural exchange programmes in South East Asia in Bangkok (Thailand), Phuket (Thailand), Jakarta (Indonesia) and Medan (Indonesia).

As the team looks to the future, they realise that there was a need to expand their knowledge towards different dance forms and a need to mesh Bhangra with these dance forms to preserve the public’s interest in Bhangra and begin training the next generation in Singapore.

In 2018, JPB began working with a ballet school in Singapore to incorporate ballet into upcoming performances and will also be working with other dance schools to incorporate other dance forms like Samba and Salsa for other events.

JPB have also started basic Bhangra training for children as young as 3 years old and are also working with the neighbouring Resident Committees (RCs), Community Centres (CCs) and Schools within their base in Punggol, Singapore to bring Bhangra to them.
